What to Expect & Fees
Initially, you can expect to have an assessment session which will take up to 90 minutes. In this assessment, I will ask you about your current experience, your background, and the impact of the problem for you. I will also ask you about your hopes for therapy, and what you are hoping to get out of it. At the end of this appointment, we can have an idea about what we want to focus the treatment on. This is also a good time to get to know each other and for me to answer any questions that you may have.
As we begin therapy, we start by formulating your problem. This basically means that we will map out your problem and all the contributing factors. We begin to pay particular attention to your thought processes and start to identify links between those thoughts and your behaviours. Then, depending on the nature of your problem, we then apply different techniques and strategies to enable you to adapt your thoughts and behaviours.
As therapy draws to a close, we will work closely together to enable you feel as supported and as equipped as possible; so that you can finish therapy confident that you have a number of tools in your tool kit moving forward.

How long is a session?
The initial assessment will take around 90 minutes, but most typical sessions are around 50 minutes in length. However, there are some occasions where we may need to allow for a bit of a longer session; for instance, when working with OCD or PTSD, there are certain interventions that require more time. But, please don’t be put off by this. Some people have conditions or neurodivergence which means that a shorter session is more appropriate. I will work with you to support you – so let’s discuss this at the start of therapy.
Do you work remotely?
I have flexibility to work remotely and face to face in Bishop’s Stortford for CBT. At the moment, I don’t offer remote sessions for music therapy. Music Therapy often takes place in schools or music centres.
Can you come to my house?
In some instances, it might be appropriate for me to come to you for therapy. We can discuss the practicalities of this if needed.
Can you use CBT with children and young people?
Yes! CBT is all about the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Even children as young as 7 can access CBT concepts when presented in an age appropriate way.
Can you diagnose me?
No. I am not qualified to diagnose you. For a diagnosis of a psychological problem or neurodivergence, you will need to speak with your GP who can refer you on to the relevant professionals for a diagnosis.
Do I need to have a diagnosis to have therapy?
No. Lots of people have symptoms of low mood and anxiety without having an official diagnosis.
How long is therapy for?
This varies from person to person, but typically CBT treatment will be anywhere from 12 -24 weeks. Music Therapy is more often a longer-term therapy; I have worked with some patients for several years on a weekly basis.
